Kayla Copper, LCSW
(Contract Therapist)
I enjoy working with and supporting people who are on their paths towards self-discovery, personal growth, and self-love. I strive to create a collaborative relationship with my clients, working together to identify individual needs, challenges, and areas for growth and exploration. I focus on creating a safe and non-judgemental space to promote curiosity and openness. I consider my style of therapy to be “compassionately directive” as I not only listen to what my clients share, I also advise and challenge. I integrate humor, metaphors, and analogies into my practice as I find them to be useful in understanding and connecting, which allows for an authentic relationship between myself and my clients. With experience working in many levels of care, and having gained insight through my own personal experiences, I am able to approach my clients with understanding, compassion, and knowledge.
I specialize in working with clients who struggle with eating disorders, body image distress, LGBTQ+ related issues, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I utilize a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Dialectical Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Radically Open-DBT (RO-DBT). In my work with eating disorders, I operate from a Health at Every Size and anti-diet lens.
I believe therapy and a thoughtful therapeutic relationship can be helpful tools as you take steps towards change, healing, and authenticity. I find the therapeutic relationship can allow for clients to feel validated and seen while also promoting positive growth through challenge and self-understanding. I am passionate about supporting clients as they embark on their journeys.
I graduated with my BS in Biology from Indiana University in 2018. In 2021, I graduated from Indiana University with my Masters in Social Work with a concentration in mental health and addictions. In my free time I love to hike, camp, cook delicious food, and spend time with loved ones.
